a blog about a yarn company

Freia Friday 11-6-15

2015-09-24 09.53.04I can’t believe it’s already been 9 1/2 years since I first picked her up and brought her home.

An 8 week old pup, I named her Freia after the Norse goddess of Love and War. Freia is a Chesapeake Bay Retriever, a breed known for their loyalty and protectiveness. The name is a perfect fit for her. When I branched out from Knitwhits to begin dyeing yarn, naming this new company Freia Fine Handpaints was my way of honoring her. The yarn company has proven to be as big a part of my life as she is.

Our hand-dyed 'Shawl Balls' have arrived from @freiafibers and we couldn't be more smitten! This is 'Mist' and just one ball was used to knit the gorgeous 'Kiekko' by @lilofil by Loopette @jpatjung as a sample for the shop. With a whopping 393 metres/430 yards of 100% Merino it's the perfect shawl yarn. Combining Lace + Stockinette stitch, the hand painted ombre yarn is stunning for this. Thanks to Tina for creating such a beautiful yarn, which is in the London shop and online at Loop. Pattern available through Ravelry from Berangere Cailliau. Lots of other gorgeous colours too - It's incredibly soft and yummy - come see the sample in the shop! #freiaatLoop #handdyed #handmade #shawl #kiekkoshawl #gradient #ombre #merino #looplondon #knitlife #knitting #masterdyer #laceknitting #natural #happycolors #smitten #ohmygoodness Home sweet home Fiber love runs in the family - my Norwegian aunt just gave me this fanciful map of California that she embroidered over 60 years ago ❤️ Leaving on a jet plane to far away places and I already miss these two knuckleheads but I have my favorite shoes, my favorite scarf and my knitting. ✈️🇬🇧 The kind of design to take you through all the seasons - coming soon - The Cloisonné Cardigan by Holli Yeoh for Freia ombré worsted yarn
